Hanley Ramirez not under federal investigation

The original report was incorrect

Earlier this weekend, there was a report from Michele McPhee that Hanley Ramirez was being “eyed” in a federal investigation with ties to a drug ring based in Lawrence, MA. According to the Boston Globe, that report was incorrect. The latest report indicates that the portion of the original report in which McPhee stated a man was pulled over with drugs and claimed the drugs belonged to Ramirez was true. However, that claim was apparently proved false fairly quickly. So, the former Red Sox slugger was involved tangentially in the investigation, but his involvement was short and not criminal.

Obviously, I owe an apology here for running with this story when the report first dropped. I should have waited for more corroboration for this report, but McPhee appeared to be credible. That was clearly not the case. So, that’s my bad and I will do everything in my power to make sure this doesn’t happen again. As for Ramirez, well, the mystery continues as to why he has not yet signed with a team.
