Red Sox at Mariners Lineups: Eddie and the Sox go for a split

They need to do better at the plate

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox have had a rough couple of days in Seattle after dropping two close games the last two nights, and now they need to win on Sunday to salvage a split in this middle series of the current ten-game road trip. This was always going to be a tough series, of course, with the Mariners being both very good and extremely hot, but that doesn’t excuse the offense on Saturday, and really Friday too. While they put up a bunch of runs in the second game, it all came in one error-infused inning. A little more consistency would be nice.

The good news is that they’ll be going against a righty in Mike Leake, who always has the potential to put up a big start but certainly won’t look overpowering while he’s doing it. The Red Sox are going with what is mostly their main lineup, with a few minor tweaks. For one thing, Eduardo Núñez will be getting the day off in favor of Brock Holt, which honestly is something we should be seeing more of going forward. J.D. Martinez will also slot in as the number four hitter in this game with Xander Bogaerts hitting third. Other than that, things are as they typically are. On the mound is Eduardo Rodriguez, who has looked really good — if inefficient — of late. They could use more of that, and getting deep into the game certainly wouldn’t hurt either. Here are the full lineups.
