This past offseason was dominated by one story: J.D. Martinez. Or to put it another way, the loss of David Ortiz and a 2017 lineup that never quite felt as good as the results. Sure there was talent, but after more than a decade of Big Papi there wasn’t one guy to point to as the big bat.
Boy has that changed.
Give it up for your AL Player of the Week, @JDMartinez14! pic.twitter.com/IN3vvdFgFO

As the AL Player of the Week from May 14 to May 20 J.D. Martinez came to the plate 29 times and reached base in twelve of his appearances. He drove in eight runs, scored seven himself, and hit five balls out of the park!
10/10, would recommend multi-homer games. pic.twitter.com/h4A1TZYRxN

He hit multiple home runs in a game! He was intentionally walked once...although that might become a trend if he keeps going. And if the last four years are any indication, he will.
Together with Mookie Betts (Mookie!!) he shares the AL lead in home runs on the season with 15.
Just watch those homers fly...
Here’s a reminder of what @JDMartinez14 did to earn AL Player of the Week. #CarryTheFreight pic.twitter.com/Rn62B63Dyb
