Red Sox at Yankees lineup: Can E-Rod keep the Bronx brooms at bay?

The Sox look to get back to first place tonight against C.C. Sabathia.

The Red Sox (25-11) look to jump back into a tie for first place with the surging Yankees (26-10) as they wrap-up a heretofore nightmare series in the Bronx tonight (7:05 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market).

About tonight’s game: Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 5.29 ERA) was supposed to miss this series entirely but will get the nod against the ageless wonder C.C. Sabathia (2-0, 1.39 ERA). E-Rod has pitched... okay this year, but was bitten by the longball his last time out. Good thing that’s not an issue with this Yankees lineup! Um...

On offense, the Sox mostly run it back from yesterday, swapping in Christian Vazquez for Sandy Leon, i.e., Jackie Bradley Jr.’s out again. For the Yanks, Giancarlo Stanton will play left field in this one, with Miguel Andujar DHing and Ronald Torreyes making the start at 3B.

About last night’s game: Alex Cora used Craig Kimbrel in the eighth inning — correctly — and the move came back to bite him when a Brett Gardner triple and Aaron Judge donger pushed the Yankees toward a 9-6 win. Read Matt’s excruciating recap (headline: “That sucked”) here.

Forecast: About 70 degrees with about a 30 percent chance of rain.

Today’s reading: NBC Sports Boston’s Evan Drellich has been pushing the Kimbrel-in-the-eighth move all year, so he’s the perfect guy to tell you why it was the right move despite the wrong result.

A good tweet from last night:
