FanPost Friday - Expectations of Dustin Pedroia

Yep, elephant in the room.

Dustin Pedroia is in pretty high esteem in Boston, and for good reason. How long will the ride last?

Last week, I simply asked you to tell me what you’ve learned from our early success. This week, I’m flipping the question and asking you to bring out your crystal ball. Predictions and expectations are fun because even if you believe the same general thing (such as “Player A will be good”), there’s a pretty good chance you both have different bars for what good entails, as well as how much better than that Player A will be in the first place.

This week, Dustin Pedroia is the Player A that I’m going to ask you to write about.

What do you expect from Dustin Pedroia, returning from injury in late May? Is Eduardo Nuñez a good enough player to force Dustin Pedroia to the bench? Are Dustin’s days in Boston numbered? What do you do with his contract? Who do you view as a potential replacement down the line, and how do you propose acquiring said player, if applicable? Is there someone in system who you believe should be the 2nd baseman of the future?

There’s a lot of things you could write about, and we can leave this a bit open-ended. Mainly, I want you to answer the question of second base, and whether Pedroia can still be that guy on the roster. If he can’t, do you view there being an acceptable option that could be feasibly acquired?

I look forward to your responses, and will see you all on Tuesday for the Flyby!
