Red Sox at A’s lineup: Okay, but can they hit this freakin’ guy?

A day after being no-hit by Sean Manaea, the 17-3 Red Sox look to start their third winning streak of the year versus... this dude.

MLB: Oakland Athletics at Texas Rangers Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox (17-3) look to bounce back after being no-hit by Sean Manaea when they finish off a three-game series and West Coast road trip against the A’s (10-11) this afternoon in Oakland (4:05, NESN).

About today’s game: David Price (2-1, 2.25 ERA) takes the ball for the second time after his first-inning against the Yankees on April 11. Last time out, Price held the Angels to 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings, striking out 6 and walking 4. He’ll be matched by the outrageously mustachioed Daniel Mengden (2-2, 4.50 ERA).

Alex Cora’s really leaning into the Sundayness of the Sunday lineup: Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez get the day off, while Jackie Bradley Jr. leads off and plays right field. Andrew Benintendi’s in center, J.D. Martinez is in left, Mitch Moreland’s at first and Blake Swihart is at DH. It’s fairly dizzying.

The A’s are starting Jake Smolinski in center, which made me think of Bryan Smolinski for the first time in forever. Go B’s.

About last night’s game: What can you say? Well, Matt recapped Manaea’s no-hitter thusly, and my take is that it was pretty amazing to watch and unlikely to happen to this team again any time soon, so it didn’t bother me, not even Benintendi’s single-that-wasn’t. Calmer than you are.

Forecast: It’ll be very nice right around gametime, around 68-70 degrees. Also there will be hits.

A good ‘game recognize game’ tweet from last night:
