The Red Sox (13-2) face down the almost equally hot Angels (13-3) and two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani (2-0, 2.08 ERA), making his third pitching start of the year, in Anaheim tonight (10:05 p.m., NESN, MLBN out-of-market) behind David Price (1-1, 2.40 ERA). Read the series preview here.
About tonight’s game: Price returns after his 4 earned run, injury-shortened start against the Yankees last Wednesday, ostensibly at full health. He’ll need everything in his arsenal to face down the Halos, who won’t have the heavy-hitting Ohtani in their lineup; this leaves them only with the hands-down best player in baseball in Mike “The same age as Bobby Poyner” Trout. You read that right. Look at this nonsense:
Joey Votto is a future Hall of Famer with a 157 lifetime OPS+, six seasons as the NL leader in OBP, 2,645 times on base, and less career WAR than Mike Trout.

Still, somehow, tonight is about Ohtani. Last time he pitched, he took a perfect game into the seventh inning, making the A’s look silly in the process. The Red Sox present a challenge of a different magnitude, and this game is as must-see as any April contest could be. The Red Sox roll out the basic lineup, with Brock Holt playing shortstop and batting ninth in place of the still-injured Xander Bogearts. The Angels have Trout batting second, old man Albert Pujols in the cleanup spot and Justin Upton batting between them. It should be a blast from start to finish.
About Sunday’s game: The Sox bear the Orioles for their fourth straight win behind a strong start from Christian Vazquez and offensive firepower from Andrew Benintendi, among others. Read the recap here.
Forecast: SoCal, baby! It’s gonna be a nice 69 degrees or so at game time.
A Lil Wayne tweet to get you pumped for tonight:
