Will the Red Sox win the Mayor’s Cup, the extreme battle for dominance between the Ft. Myers spring training clubs, today against the Twins? I’m not gonna bother to look up the records, because I honestly don’t care, but the answer is yes. I’m pretty sure they’ve won it anyway, and I’m sorta sure the series is at 4-1 Sox, with one extremely important rainout thrown in. I do not care whatsoever, except to fill column space so it looks like there is analysis for the game, especially a day after the Sox shipped Deven Marrero to Arizona and basically finalized their roster. You’d think there’d be something to say, right? And there is. But none of this is it.
This is it:
DON’T GET HURT
David Price starts today in his final tuneup. I hope he doesn’t get hit by the ball or strain his lat or get attacked by a gator (or, worse, a Floridian). Very interesting lineup today, with J.D. Martinez hitting second and Andrew Benintendi hitting cleanup. Christian Vazquez is rewarded for his extension by hitting in the nine-hole. Generous! Here is the full slate:
- Mookie Betts, RF
- J.D. Martinez, LF
- Hanley Ramirez, 1B
- Andrew Benintendi, CF
- Xander Bogaerts, SS
- Mitch Moreland, DH
- Eduardo Nunez, 2B
- Rafael Devers, 3B
- Christian Vazquez, C
SP: Price, LHP
