As part of MLB Network’s ongoing Top 10 Right Now! series to get everyone back into baseball mode teams of analysts and commentators are going through position by position and choosing the best of the best. Number eight among all left fielders is our very own Andrew Benintendi aka Super Nintendo.
Coming off his rookie season, Benintendi joins a number of big names in the left fielder rankings:
1. Marcell Ozuna, St. Louis Cardinals
2. Yoenis Céspedes, New York Mets
3. Justin Upton, Los Angeles Angels
4. Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers
5. Trey Mancini, Baltimore Orioles
6. Khris Davis, Oakland Athletics
7. Adam Eaton, Washington Nationals
8. Andrew Benintendi, Boston Red Sox
9. Marwin Gonzalez, Houston Astros
10. Brett Gardner, New York Yankees
As the runner-up to home run machine Aaron Judge in AL Rookie of the Year voting, big things are expected in Benintendi’s sophomore season. Already having a 20-20 season under his belt is a good way to start. With a .271/.352/.424 line in 2017 he’s chipping in offensively, defensively, on the basepaths...exactly the type of desirable all-round player we’ve heard the front office talking about recently.
I love this player. It’s a matter of time before you see this guy figure it out and we’re talking about a perennial 20-20 guy, which he already did last season. But I think all the other numbers that go with it are going to get better along the way. - Eric Byrnes
And don’t forgot about his dance moves - on and off the field!
Following Jackie Bradley Jr., Xander Bogaerts, and Mookie Betts into the majors is a tough task but Benintendi is more than up for it.
Are you ready for the Andrew Benintendi to be the next great left fielder for the Red Sox? It’s quite the club to join!
