The rest of the Gold Gloves

The Gold Gloves were, of course, rewarded on Sunday night and the Red Sox won three of them. Ian Kinsler, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts all won the award. Here is the full list of American League Winners.

P: Dallas Keuchel, HOU

C: Salvador Perez, KC

1B: Matt Olson, OAK

2B: Ian Kinsler, BOS

3B: Matt Chapman, OAK

SS: Andrelton Simmons, LAA

LF: Alex Gordon, KC

CF: Jackie Bradley Jr., BOS

RF: Mookie Betts, BOS

And here’s the list for the National League:

P: Zack Greinke, ARI

C: Yadier Molina, STL

1B: Freddie Freeman, ATL and Anthony Rizzo, CHC

2B: D.J. LeMahieu, COL

3B: Nolan Arenado, COL

SS: Nick Ahmed, ARI

LF: Corey Dickerson, PIT

CF: Ender Inciarte, ATL

RF: Nick Markakis, ATL

So, there’s the full list. Each of these players is now eligible to receive their league’s Platinum Glove, which goes to the best overall defender regardless of position. Among the Red Sox, Betts is the best chance because, well, he’s amazing. There’s some steep competition, though, with Simmons and Chapman probably representing the biggest threats. In the NL, I’ll guess it goes to Molina or Arenado.

Bryce Harper not to be targeted by New York?

An interesting rumor popped up over the weekend when Steve Phillips of MLB Network indicated that the Yankees wouldn’t be pursuing Bryce Harper. Instead, most of their energy will be spent trying to woo Manny Machado. This isn’t super surprising at first glance. Machado has always been seen as the more likely future Yankee and they need more help on the infield than in the outfield. They already have Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton out there, not to mention Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury (allegedly) and Clint Frazier. I never expected Harper to end up in New York. That being said, the Yankees are supposed to be ready to spend this year, and until proven otherwise I expect that’s what they’ll do. I’ll never believe they’re out on any legitimate superstar until I actually see it.
