Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only fan that enjoys this stuff.
I’m one of those weirdos that loves to go back and watch old games. I’ve lost track of how many Larry Bird games from the ‘80s I’ve watched on YouTube. It seems like I watch a different one every week. I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for this stuff.
When a Boston team wins a championship though, it goes to a whole new level. When my favorite team pulls off a historic run to win it all, they usually leave me with a boatload of memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I enjoy it so much that it almost brings me the same amount of joy to go back and relive the entire thing again.
And thus, that’s why I’m greatly looking forward to ordering the 2018 World Series Collector’s Edition DVD set. I always go nuts over things like this.
Just to give you a glimpse into my mind, there isn’t a sports DVD collection that means more to me than that of the 2004 Red Sox. That DVD set consists of all seven games of the ALCS against the Yankees and all four games of the World Series against the Cardinals, and those 11 games were arguably the greatest and most memorable run in the history of Boston sports. Watching all of those games consecutively has essentially become an annual tradition for me.
While the 2018 World Series won’t have the same amount of significance (no one will), given that the Red Sox weren’t breaking a nearly century-old curse, this was still a very special and memorable October. And there were loads of awesome memories during those five games against the Dodgers that I’m greatly looking forward to watching them again.
And then again next year too. And then… well, you get where I’m going with this.
However, I might have to pour myself a couple of drinks before I watch Game 3 again. Not sure I’m quite ready to relive that one.
