MLB Roundup 10/7: Astros take 2-0 series lead

And a top international prospect works out for everyone

Astros take Game Two

Before the Red Sox lost their disappointing Game Two to New York, the Astros were looking to take a 2-0 lead over Cleveland in the other ALDS. The Indians did take an early lead in this game when Francisco Lindor blasted a solo homer off Gerrit Cole. Beyond that dinger, though, the Astros starter was incredible. He only allowed that one run over seven innings of work while also striking out 12 with three hits and no walks. That 1-0 score did sit through the first half of the game, but Houston came charging back in the sixth. Marwin Gonzalez gave them a lead with one swing of the bat with a huge two-run double against Andrew Miller, and then Alex Bregman hit a homer off Trevor Bauer for some insurance. Houston’s bullpen held the lead and they’re now one win away from a sweep as they head to Cleveland for Monday’s Game Three.

The Mesa brothers work out in Miami

The biggest names on the international amateur market this year are a pair of brothers, Victor Victor Mesa and his younger brother Victor Jr. Yes, there are three Victors between the two names. Anyway, the two Cuban brothers have been hyped up all year now, and teams have just been waiting for when they can sign. This weekend, the two brothers worked out for all 30 teams down in Miami. According to scouts, Victor Victor is the consensus pick for the top prospect among the two, though there are some who prefer VIctor Jr. Their markets aren’t entirely clear at this point, though many surprisingly point to Baltimore as the favorites for Victor Victor. That would, of course, be a stark change of strategy for the Orioles organization.
