National League Central

We entered the final day of the regular season with a tie, and we’d leave with one too. First, the Brewers, who were hosting the Tigers on Sunday. Milwaukee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, and then Gio Gonzalez would keep Detroit off the board all afternoon. The Brewers would end up with 11 runs on the day for the win. Meanwhile, in Chicago, the Cubs fell behind by a 2-0 score early on, and for a time things weren’t looking good. Things turned on a dime, though, with Chicago scoring four in the third then four more in the fifth and they ended up with a 10-5 win. Also, Allen Webster got the win because baseball is the weirdest. So, Milwaukee and Chicago remain tied and the latter will host a Game 163 on Monday with Jose Quintana on the mound for the Cubs with the Brewers likely countering with a bullpen game. The winner gets the top seed in the NL while the loser hosts the Wildcard Game on Tuesday. First pitch will be at 1:05 PM ET on ESPN.

National League West

Much like in the NL Central, the West featured a tie between the Rockies and the Dodgers heading into the final day of the season. In Game 162, both teams came to play and neither of their opponents could say the same. We start in San Francisco, who couldn’t come close to containing the Dodgers offense. Los Angeles scored two in the first, then the score got out of hand after a seven-run third. Eventually, L.A. would run away with a 15-0 win. Meanwhile, in Colorado, the Nationals somewhat controversially decided not to start Max Scherzer and the Rockies were certainly happy to see that. They also jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and just kept scoring all night. Eventually, Colorado went home with a 12-0 victory. So, Los Angeles and Colorado remain tied and the former will host a Game 163 on Monday with Walker Buehler on the mound for the Dodgers and German Marquez going for the Rockies. The winner hosts the Braves in the NLDS while the loser travels to take on the loser of the other Game 163 for the Wildcard Game on Tuesday.

National League Wildcard

As I said above, the wildcard teams are going to be decided by the two tiebreakers on Monday. The loser of the NL Central will host the loser of the NL West.
