MLB Network names Dustin Pedroia number six second baseman

The veteran’s still got that Laser Show going on.

Joining teammate Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia has been recognized by MLB Network as the sixth best second baseman in the game.

Facing especially steep competition in the American League, Pedroia trails a few notable names.

1. Jose Altuve, Houston Astros

2. Robinson Cano, Seattle Mariners

3. Brian Dozier, Minnesota Twins

4. Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals

5. DJ LeMahieu, Colorado Rockies

6. Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

7. Jonathan Schoop, Baltimore Orioles

8. Ian Kinsler, Los Angeles Angels

9. Neil Walker, Free Agent

10. Cesar Hernandez, Philadelphia Phillies

Pedroia is coming off an injury-limited 2017 season that saw him hit .293/.369/.392 with 7 home runs. Due to offseason knee surgery, Pedroia is not be expected to rejoin the team until May or June. This does raise questions of who will play second base at the start of the season while the team awaits their star.

As hard as it is to believe, this will be the 13th season in the majors for Dustin Pedroia. So far he has an AL Rookie of the Year award, one AL MVP award, four Gold Gloves, and four All-Star Game selections. Oh, and also a pair of World Series rings. What else does his career have in store?
