The Cardinals and Rays are talking about Chris Archer
After a fairly exciting Saturday in the baseball world, Sunday brought us back to the nothingness we’ve gotten so used to. Of course, if you watch football you enjoyed yourself plenty, but some baseball news at night would have been nice. The juiciest bit of news we got was a rumor that the Cardinals are interested in Chris Archer. Granted, we’ve heard trade rumors around St. Louis all offseason, between Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson and fellow Ray Alex Colomé. According to this report from Derek Goold, though, the interest in Colomé was overstated and the focus has instead been on Archer. Red Sox fans know pretty well that Archer hasn’t always lived up to his potential, but when he’s on he is one of the scariest pitchers in the league. I’m still a big believer in the talent and think he’s going to put it all together very soon. It would certainly be better for our purposes if that happened in St. Louis rather than Tampa Bay.
- Before Gerrit Cole was eventually traded to Houston, the Yankees reportedly offered a package centered around Clint Frazier to Pittsburgh for their ace. New York doesn’t necessarily need another pitcher, but it’s pretty clear they want one. Don’t be surprised if their talks with Yu Darvish start to heat up soon.
