Pawtucket W 7-2
Bryce Brentz: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
Kyle Kendrick: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Carson Smith: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Chandler Shepherd: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
If the Red Sox still haven’t made a decision on whether or not to call Brentz up, the righty is doing everything he can to have them decide in his favor. Meanwhile, Smith only threw a third of an inning in this one because he was it with a line drive and needed to exit early. Because of course. As of this writing there is no word on whether or not it is a serious concern.
Salem G1 L 0-2
Tate Matheny: 0-2
Austin Rei: 0-2, 1 K
Mike Shawaryn: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
Salem G2 L 2-3 (F/8)
Logan Boyd: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Hell of a way to end the year for Shawaryn, even if he picked up the loss. He is an electric arm, and whether or not he can continue to put up these kind of results in Double-A while sticking in the rotation is going to be a massive test in 2018. He’s certainly not untouchable heading into the offseason, but he’s someone I hope the team holds on to.
Greenville L 4-6
Roldani Baldwin: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 E
Pedro Castellanos: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R
Castellanos is an intriguing, but very raw, hitter who thrived in the GCL this year. The team decided to send him up to Greenville for the rest of the regular season and the postseason, and it should be really interesting to see how he responds to the jump in talent. His debut went pretty well, to be sure.
