American League Playoff Update: September 19, 2017

The Yankees and Twins were the only other game.

With the minor-league season over and our typical 8:00 AM slot suddenly open, I figured it would be worthwhile to take a quick daily look at how the playoff picture has changed in the American League on a day-to-day basis. This will be nothing fancy. Just a look at how playoff contenders did on the day, how it affected the standings and what it means for the Red Sox. I’ll consider any team within five games of a playoff spot as a postseason contender.

Playoff Picture Update

It was a slow day around the league on Monday, but particularly slow for the American League postseason race. Obviously as Red Sox fans we want to see the Yankees lose as many games in this series against Minnesota as possible. Still, there’s a really little part of me that wants the Twins to lose to increase the probability of chaos on the wildcard race. Their loss on Monday brought the other teams in race all that much closer as they get back into action on Tuesday. That being said, go Twins boo Yankees.
