Red Sox Minor Lines: Bobby Dalbec is starting to hit

New, comments

Bobby Dalbec is heating up for the end of the year.

Pawtucket L 2-4

Deven Marrero: 0-5, 2 K

Bryce Brentz: 1-4, 1 K

Blake Swihart: 0-4, 2 K

Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K

Justin Haley: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Carson Smith: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Rough one for Smith, who I wouldn’t expect to see up today but will certainly be up once Pawtucket’s season ends next week. As for those who will be up, John Farrell said to expect three or four promotions, and I’d expect most of them to be pitchers. It’s also possible that Sam Travis’ day off could mean he’ll be called up today, too, but that’s pure speculation. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention Haley’s strong start. He’s been very good since returning to the organization.

Portland W 9-3

Danny Mars: 2-5, 1 R, 1 K

Michael Chavis: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 E

Josh Ockimey: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E

Josh Tobias: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Dedgar Jimenez: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K

Ty Buttrey: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Ockimey has been a little inconsistent since being promoted to Double-A, and in fact it was to the point that I was surprised to see how effective he’s been with Portland. He had a .783 OPS even before this game, and it’s surely going up now. He’s an interesting power prospect to watch next year.

Salem L 4-6

Tate Matheny: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 K

Matheny is ending his year on a high note, having hit in his last eight games and 12 of his last 13. He’s not a great prospect, but there’s still a chance at a major-league bench role down the road if he maximizes everything.

Greenville W 12-1

Bobby Dalbec: 2-2, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 CS

Speaking of strong ends to the year, Dalbec has been cooking at the plate of late. He’s had a disappointing year from both health and performance standpoints, but he’s turned it on in a big way this month and has some positive momentum that will hopefully carry through the offseason. My guess is they’ll look to fast-track him next year if possible and get him to Portland by mid year.

Lowell G1 L 2-3

Michael Osinski: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 R

Yoan Aybar: 1-3, 2 K

Lowell G2 L 2-3 (F/8)

Michael Osinski: 0-4, 2 K

Yoan Aybar: 0-3, 1 K

Durin O’Linger: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K

I would be lying if I said I knew much about O’Linger, but that’s a hell of a line. I can tell you he was an undrafted free agent this summer.

GCL Red Sox W 5-1

Tyler Esplin: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 3 K

Everlouis Lozada: 1-5, 1 K
