Another great start for Velazquez, who has been one of the more underrated moves made by Dave Dombrowski with the Red Sox. The former Mexican League star has had some growing pains adjusting to life in this league, but he’s proven he’s strong rotation depth. He’ll certainly be in the bullpen in September, and could play a bigger role in 2018. Also, another home run for Brentz. Ho hum.

Two consecutive great outings for Groome, who hopefully is starting to get in a bit of a groove before the end of the season. Obviously, he missed some significant time with injury this year, but a nice run to end the year would be a nice sign for his development and make it even more likely than it was that he’d be able to start next season at High-A Salem.

Swihart continues his rehab down on the complex, and on Monday that included making his professional debut at first base. The Red Sox seem determined to make him able to play as many positions as possible, which continues to be strange. It could make sense if he’s just not able to catch right now, but even in that case he could DH. I don’t know. It’s too early in the process to get overly upset, but it’s not encouraging.
