Red Sox Minor Lines: Josh Ockimey hits first Double-A home run

Josh Ockimey leaves the yard.

Pawtucket L 1-3

Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-4, 1 K, 1 CS

Rusney Castillo: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Bryce Brentz: 0-4, 3 K

Sam Travis: 3-4

Steve Selsky: 1-4, 2 K

Deven Marrero: 0-3, 1 K

Justin Haley: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Another big day for Castillo, and between him and Brentz it’s been a hell of a season in Pawtucket’s outfield. There’s still a question as to whether or not there’s room for either player this year or next — Brentz seems much more likely to me — but Castillo is doing everything he can to prove he needs another chance. Meanwhile, Haley is back with the Red Sox and picking up where he left off. I’d be surprised to see him unprotected from the Rule 5 draft again this winter.

Portland W 8-5

Michael Chavis: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K

Josh Ockimey: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 E

Josh Tobias: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E

Dedgar Jimenez: 6 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Jake Cosart: 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Welcome to Double-A, Josh Ockimey. The first base prospect’s power is what will make or break his quest to the majors, and he showed off why some are excited about that power potential in this game. Perhaps more encouraging is that he has avoided striking out in two straight games. Obviously, two straight games isn’t a huge deal, but Ockimey’s swing-and-miss is what will keep him from making the majors. It’ll always be there to some extent, but the key is limiting it as much as possible.

Salem G1 W 11-6 (F/8)

Austin Rei: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 K

Roniel Raudes: 4.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Salem G2 L 1-4

Austin Rei: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K

Tate Matheny: 2-4, 1 2B

Austin Glorius: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Raudes continues his inconsistent season with a rough one on Friday. As I’ve said many times this year, it’s always important to remember he is a 20-year-old in High-A, so his performance shouldn’t be judged too harshly. That being said, it’d be nice if he went on a big run to finish the year as he presumably gets set for Double-A in 2018.

Greenville W 3-2

Lorenzo Cedrola: 1-5, 2 K, 2 SB

Tyler Hill: 2-5

Roldani Baldwin: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K

Bobby Dalbec: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K

Brett Netzer: 0-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Lowell L 10-11

Michael Osinski: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Yoan Aybar: 1-4, 2 R, 1 RBI

Alexander Martinez: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 CS

GCL Red Sox L 8-9

Cole Brannen: 2-6, 2 R, 1 SB

Blake Swihart (DH): 1-4, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Pedro Castellanos: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI

DSL Red Sox L 2-6

Keibert Petit: 2-5, 1 RBI, 2 SB
