Pawtucket L 0-4
Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Bryce Brentz: 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K
Sam Travis: 1-4, 1 K
Blake Swihart: 1-4, 3 K
Jalen Beeks: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 4 K
Kyle Martin: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
It’s been a rough end of the year for Pawtucket’s lineup as many are just waiting for the season to end so they can get called back up to the majors. Brentz in particular has been struggling very recently with three consecutive hitless days. He’s done enough this year to probably deserve a chance back in the majors, but I still think some are too confident in his abilities at this point.
Portland L 5-8
Danny Mars: 0-4, 1 K
Michael Chavis: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
Josh Tobias: 0-3, 1 R, 1 K
Josh Ockimey: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Matt Barnes: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Ty Buttrey: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Barnes is back on his rehab assignment and is expected to return to the majors on Friday when he’s first eligible. There was some speculation that this DL trip was just to clear his head as he’d been struggling lately, but that’s impossible to prove from the outside. Either way, he had a solid rehab outing and will hopefully be a boost to the bullpen.
Salem L 5-6
Tate Matheny: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K
Austin Rei: 1-4, 1 RBI
Greenville W 2-1 (F/12)
Brett Netzer: 1-5, 1 K
Roldani Baldwin: 1-5
Tyler Hill: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI
Bobby Dalbec: 1-5, 3 K, 1 CS
It’s been an up-and-down season for much of Greenville’s lineup, but Hill in particular has been on the rise of late. You know things are going well for the speedy outfielder when he’s hitting the ball over the fence, as Tuesday’s homer was just his ninth of the year. Meanwhile, it wasn’t a special game for Baldwin by any means but it was his first back after a few days off.
Lowell L 0-3
Yoan Aybar: 1-2, 1 BB
Jake Thompson: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K
Thompson, the team’s fourth-round pick in this summer’s draft, made his sixth professional start on Wednesday, and while his run hasn’t been perfect it’s encouraging. The command appears to be a bit inconsistent right now, but that’s to be expected after a long collegiate campaign. The fact that he’s missing plenty of bats (11 strikeouts in 9 innings) is plenty encouraging.
Cole Brannen: 1-4, 1 R
Kervin Suarez: 3-3, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Pedro Castellanos: 0-3, 1 BB
Everlouis Lozada: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Tyler Esplin: 0-2, 2 BB
GCL Red Sox G2 W 7-6
Cole Brannen: 0-4, 3 K
Pedro Castellanos: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E
Everlouis Lozada: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K
Zach Schellenger: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 0 K
