Pawtucket L 3-8
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-4, 1 K
Bryce Brentz: 0-4
Sam Travis: 0-2, 2 BB
Jalen Beeks: 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 7 K
Kyle Martin: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K
It was a rough day for talented lefties throughout the organization apparently, as Beeks got hit around pretty well in Pawtucket on Thursday night. The good news is his peripherals were still good, his opponents just hit him too hard. That will happen sometimes, but it’s no reason to change the short- or long-term outlook.
Portland W 2-1
Danny Mars: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R
Josh Tobias: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Josh Ockimey: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Ockimey hasn’t exactly hit the ground running since getting up to Double-A, hitting just .206/.308/.338 since getting to Portland. This was kind of a surprising promotion to begin with, and the jump to Double-A can be extremely tough, so this isn’t an indictment of Ockimey’s talent. The hope is that this experience will allow him to get off to a hot start in 2018.
Salem W 6-5
Tate Matheny: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Austin Rei: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
There have been some peaks in Rei’s season, but they’ve been heavily outweighed by the valleys. The catching prospect had some real potential entering professional baseball, but he hasn’t shown anything to this point to make one believe he’ll make good on that in the Red Sox organization. In fact, I probably wouldn’t include him in here if he were on a more talented team.
Greenville W 10-0
Brett Netzer: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Bobby Dalbec: 4-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, 1 K
Roldani Baldwin: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K
Bryan Mata: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Another really strong day for Mata, who just continues to impress at a young age in the Red Sox organization. There’s not much more for him to prove the rest of the year, and this stretch run will simply be about staying healthy and getting ready for the jump up to Salem in 2018. Meanwhile, Dalbec is starting to catch fire just a little bit, which is big for a hitter who needs a big bounce back next year.
Lowell L 0-6
Yoan Aybar: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Jake Thompson: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
GCL Red Sox L 4-6
Pedro Castellanos: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Everlouis Lozada: 0-3, 2 BB
DSL Red Sox W 4-3
Willis Figueroa: 0-4, 2 K
Keibert Petit: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 CS
