Pawtucket G2 L 1-5
Rusney Castillo: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 E
Sam Travis: 0-3
Bryce Brentz: 1-3, 2 K
Blake Swihart (1B): 0-3, 1 K
Steve Selsky: 0-1
Carson Smith: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Austin Maddox: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Tuesday marked the fourth rehab assignment for Smith and his third at the Triple-A level. The results certainly weren’t great, but there is some context needed. For one, he wasn’t lacking control as 14 of the 17 pitches he threw went for strikes. Secondly, all three of the hits he allowed were singles. It’s not the most encouraging line, but he was likely better than the line suggests. Meanwhile, in game one, they got another strong start from Haley, who just adds to the team’s already strong starting pitching depth.
Portland L 3-5
Danny Mars: 2-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Josh Ockimey: 1-5, 1 K
Josh Tobias: 1-4, 1 R
Teddy Stankiewicz: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Trevor Kelley: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Mars is going to be an interesting player to keep an eye on this winter, as he’s had a quietly strong year and the outfielder is Rule 5 eligible in December. I’ve made no secret that I am higher on him than most, but even I will admit it’s not likely he’ll be taken. That being said, he’s got real bat-to-ball skills, the athleticism is no joke and he can play anywhere in the outfield. On the mound, it was another strong outing for Kelley after a really tough stretch at the end of July.
Salem L 1-5
Austin Rei: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Yikes, this roster is just so unexciting right now. The good news for Salem fans is that next year’s roster should be fun. For those of us in Portland, well...
Greenville W 2-1
Tyler Hill: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 SB
Brett Netzer: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 K
Roldani Baldwin: 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K
Bobby Dalbec: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 SB
Another day, another couple swiped bags for Hill. He’s now up to 39 stolen bases on the year. There isn’t a lot of power here, but that kind of electricity on the bases is hard to find. Apparently it’s contagious, too, because Dalbec managed a couple stolen bases of his own.
Pedro Castellanos: 2-4, 1 2B
DSL Red Sox G1 W 2-0
Keibert Petit: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 K
Rafael Rincones: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 SB
DSL Red Sox G2 L 5-7
Keibert Petit: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R
Rafael Rincones: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
