Salem L 2-3
Tate Matheny: 0-4
Roniel Raudes: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K
He wasn’t able to get the win — partially because he was going up against a rehabbing Stephen Strasburg -- but this was arguably Raudes’ best start of the year. This is the kind of skillset we saw from the young righty in 2016 and why so many were so high on him coming into 2017. His season has been solid enough that it’s hard to be overly disappointed, but a few more starts like this will create some helium for him heading into 2018.
Cole Brannen: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K
Pedro Castellanos: 1-4
It hasn’t been the most impressive debut for Brannen, who went over a month until his first extra-base hit. His double on Monday was just his second extra-base hit of the summer. Despite that, his plate discipline has been encouraging as he’s up to a .400 OBP. We’ll see what he can do after an offseason and spring of work with professional coaches.
