One day after a spectacular bullpen implosion, the Red Sox finally fulfilled the Farrell Prophecy, trading for Mets reliever Addison Reed, or so it appears. The return? Three pitching prospects who, Papi willing, you will not miss:
It's Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista, and Stephen Nogosek to the Mets in the agreement for Addison Reed.

Reed, a righty, is a pure rental, with a contract that expires at season’s end. He strikes out basically a batter an inning and is stingy with the walks (6 so far in 49 frames), to the tune of a 2.57 ERA, which is delicious.
We got some financial news too:
Source: #RedSox taking rest of money owed to Reed - about $2.6M. Free agent at end of season.

Putting the money aside, Reed is basically exactly what the Red Sox need right now. To wit:
one thing to realize is that Addison Reed has been one of the top relievers in baseball since landing with the Mets

You are officially Not Allowed to complain about this if you are a Red Sox fan. Just don't. https://t.co/u1dcMzWNam

As for the dearly departed:
RHP Gerson Bautista: Skinny, long. Effort, struggles to repeat delivery. FB 94-97 T100. Poor command. Fringy SL & CH https://t.co/nzxXxozqIt

RHP Stephen Nogosek. 2016 6th rd pick. Max effort delivery. FB 92-94 T96. Power SL 85-87. Inconsistent CH 84-86. https://t.co/zuNbO7MUAp
— Ian Cundall (@IanCundall) July 31, 2017
RHP Jamie Callahan: FB 92-95 w/life, touches higher. Flash above-average Split & SL. Close to MLB ready. RP profile. https://t.co/065y38ItBo

Callahan was part of the glut of RH relievers moving up the ladder this season, alongside Taylor, Maddox and some others.

Seems reasonable to us, but of course, feel free to prove Craig, Ben and I wrong in the comments. What do you think?
