Pawtucket W 5-3
Aneury Tavarez: 1-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-5
Rusney Castillo: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Sam Travis: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 R
Josh Rutledge: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Kyle Kendrick: 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K
Edgar Olmos: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Jamie Callahan: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
This Pawtucket roster is not all that exciting these days, particularly when Bryce Brentz gets the day off. Travis is the most exciting player on the roster, though even he has been scuffling of late. There are a lot of solid players here, but no one who really jumps out. That was pretty much the story of this game, as the best player was Kyle Kendrick and, well, you know.
Portland L 10-11
Michael Chavis: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Danny Mars: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 K
Josh Tobias: 1-5, 1 R, 1 RBI
Ty Buttrey: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 0 K
Have a day Michael Chavis. With Devers in the majors, Chavis has taken the mantle of “most exciting hitting prospect” in the system, and on the day Devers made his major-league debut Chavis grabbed the minor-league spotlight. The third base prospect has slowed down a bit since reaching Double-A, which was to be expected, but every once in awhile he has a game like this to remind us that the talent is still all the way there.
Salem G1 L 1-3 (F/10)
Josh Ockimey: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Tate Matheny: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Austin Rei: 0-3, 1 K
Austin Glorius: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Salem G2 L 4-6
Josh Ockimey: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K
Tate Matheny: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 K
It’s been a hot and cold season for Matheny, and while he’s not a top prospect he’s shown on a few occasions this year that he has the talent to go on runs in which he looks like a legitimate player. He only had two hits in this two-game stretch, but they were both for extra bases. Perhaps this is a day that can get him on another little run.
Greenville L 1-3
Tyler Hill: 0-4
Roldani Baldwin: 1-4, 2 K
Bobby Dalbec: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K
Bryan Mata: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
Another strong day for Mata, who continues to move up the organizational rankings. It’s looking more and more like he’s the type of pitcher they are going to want to hold onto and see how he adjusts to the upper levels. The way he’s been able to pitch as an 18-year-old who had no previous experience above the DSL is wildly impressive.
Lowell L 1-2
Michael Osinksi: 2-4, 2 K
Cole Brannen: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Pedro Castellanos: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 R
