Red Sox Minor Lines: Another solid day for Hector Velazquez

The first Devers-less day for the farm.

Pawtucket L 0-3

Rusney Castillo: 1-3, 1 BB

Sam Travis: 0-4, 1 K

Bryce Brentz: 0-4, 1 K

Steve Selsky: 1-4, 1 K

Hector Velazquez: 7 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Chandler Shepherd: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Another strong day for Velazquez, who continues to look like a sneaky great pickup for Dave Dombrowski and the Red Sox. Presumably he remains behind Johnson on the depth chart, but the Red Sox certainly wouldn’t be too upset having to give him a spot start or two. As for the offense, well, they’re taking notes from the big-league squad.

Portland W 8-4

Michael Chavis: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI

Josh Tobias: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB

Trey Ball: 5 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K

After a hot start to the season in Salem, Tobias hasn’t really done much in Portland. Specifically, he’s hit for almost no power and his double on Monday was his first extra-base hit since June 27. It’s becoming clear why the Phillies were willing to send him over for Clay Buchholz. Meanwhile, this counts as a pretty decent start for Ball which says more about Ball than it does about the start.

Salem SUSP

Greenville W 5-4

Lorenzo Cedrola: 0-4, 1 K

Tyler Hill: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB

Bobby Dalbec: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Coming into the season, Hill was a nice little contrast between the scouts and the statline. Most evaluators weren’t all that high on the outfielder, but his numbers in Lowell last year were fantastic. So far this season, things have been mostly good, although there have been some inconsistencies. He’s now up to a .742 OPS for the season and he also has 30 stolen bases in 35 tries.

Lowell W 3-2 (F/12)

Yoan Aybar: 0-6, 2 K

Brett Netzer: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 K

Michael Osinksi: 3-5, 1 K

Yorvin Pantoja: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K

Juan Floriento: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Osinski was Boston’s 31st round pick in this year’s draft, so you’re forgiven if you haven’t been paying attention to him. In a small sample, though, he’s been pretty outstanding. After this three-hit game, he’s now hitting .327/.393/.408. He’s worth keeping an eye on, at least.

GCL Red Sox L 1-9

Cole Brannen: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K

Zach Sterry: 0-1, 1 K

DSL Red Sox W 7-0 (F/11)

Keibert Petit: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K

Isaac Pinales: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
