Red Sox vs. Yankees lineup, game 1: Cy vs. Cy

Rick Porcello goes against CC Sabathia in Game 1 of today’s ill-timed doubleheader.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
Sigh.
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox (51-40) look to score some freaking runs after a frustrating-as-hell 16-inning Saturday loss to the motherloving Yankees (46-42) today at Fenway Park in the first game of an already exhausting doubleheader (1:05 p.m., NESN, TBS).

One day after yesterday’s offensive implosion, the flailing Chris Young is batting cleanup as the lefty-hitting platoon is mostly in; Andrew Benintendi’s out there with Dustin Pedroia getting the afternoon off. “Wonderful” all around, especially after Bennie’s Brainfart cost you a trip to the beach yesterday. Making matters worse, reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello (4.75 ERA) goes for Boston, matched by former American League Cy Young Award winner CC Sabathia (3.81 ERA). Sabathia has been much better than Porcello this year but has run into some tough times bookending a recent DL stint. Hopefully the bad times roll today, but I’m not counting on it after yesterday.

On the Yankees side, the delightfully named Ji-Man Choi starts at first base and the rocket-armed Gary Sanchez sits. Good all around for the long day ahead. Here are the full lineups:
