Red Sox Minor Lines: Brian Johnson returns for a quiet day on the farm

Brian Johnson and Mike Shawaryn lead the day.

Pawtucket SUSP

Portland PPD

Salem W 3-1

Tate Matheny: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K, 1 SB

Josh Ockimey: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 R

Mike Shawaryn: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K

Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Shawaryn has his best at High-A, striking out a batter per inning for the first time since his Salem debut about a month ago. There was always going to be an adjustment period, as with any promotion, but the talent is there for Shawaryn to quickly figure out this league.

Greenville L 7-17

Tyler Hill: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K

Lowell W 8-3

Brian Johnson: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Johnson, who has been out June 14, made his return to the mound for the Spinners on Friday. Obviously, the results aren’t quite what you’d want to see from a major-league-caliber pitcher against short-season ball competition, but it’s the work that counts. He’s likely going to need at least one more rehab start, but he’ll be ready to be inserted back on to the depth chart soon.

GCL Red Sox L 0-3

Pedro Castellanos: 3-4, 1 E

Ramfis Berroa: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 K

DSL Red Sox W 4-3

Alexander Martinez: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI

Ivan Jimenez: 2-3, 1 RBI

Gregory Santos: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
