Pawtucket G1 W 6-1
Rusney Castillo: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Steve Selsky: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Bryce Brentz: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K
Blake Swihart: 0-2, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 K
Henry Owens: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K
Jamie Callahan: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Pawtucket G2 W 3-0
Rusney Castillo: 1-3, 1 2B
Steve Selsky: 0-3, 1 K
Bryce Brentz: 0-3
Hector Velazquez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Kyle Martin: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
It was a mostly solid day for the PawSox pitching staff, although the starters didn’t do too much of note. Owens got good results and was able to limit his opponents’ hits. However, the southpaw still struggled with control and efficiency, throwing 103 pitches in that time. Meanwhile, Velazquez only threw one inning, but that was likely for insurance in case Brian Johnson wasn’t able to make his major-league start on Friday.
Portland G1 L 4-21
Danny Mars: 0-4, 2 K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E
Rafael Devers: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 E
Nick Longhi: 2-3, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Josh Tobias: 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 E
Luis Ysla: 2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Jake Cosart: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Portland G2 L 6-7 (F/8)
Danny Mars: 1-5, 2 R, 1 SB
Rafael Devers: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Nick Longhi: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Josh Tobias: 1-3, 1 2B
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-1
The SeaDogs played 15 innings of baseball on Wednesday, but not all that much in terms of excitement happened. Devers had a decent day, but nothing special. Longhi was probably the most encouraging player of the day, particularly after his recent cold spell. The least encouraging award goes Ysla, who hasn’t been able to make good on his placement on Boston’s 40-man roster this past winter.
Salem W 5-3
Tate Matheny: 2-4, 2 R, 2 K
Michael Chavis: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Josh Ockimey: 1-4, 1 E
Austin Rei: 0-3, 1 K
Austin Glorius: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Rei continues to struggle down in Salem, and while his overall numbers this season aren’t terrible — outside of a .229 batting average — he’s in the midst of a huge cold streak. The catcher still remains one of the more exciting backstops in a system lacking them, but he needs to take a step forward.
Greenville W 5-3
Tyler Hill: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Darwinzon Hernandez: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 K
Stephen Nogosek: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Hernandez had been on the disabled list since the last week of May, but he made his return to the mound on Wednesday. Unfortunately, it did not go well. He threw 32 pitches in the first inning and did not get good results. The team elected not to send him back out. Hopefully, this was just some rust for the young pitcher who had looked very good in his first full season.
DSL Red Sox W 6-5 (F/10)
Alexander Martinez: 2-4, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Keibert Petit: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Eduardo Bazardo: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
