Red Sox Minor Lines: Bryan Mata continues to impress

Another strong start for Bryan Mata in Greenville.

Pawtucket PPD

Portland PPD

Salem W 7-3

Tate Matheny: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB

Michael Chavis: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K

Josh Ockimey: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K

Austin Rei: 1-4, 1 R

It was nice to see Matheny have a big game, as the outfielder had been struggling a bit since his hot start. Tuesday marked his first game since with multiple hits since May 22, and his line has fallen from .294/.388/.421 down to .256/.338/.360. Hopefully this is the start of another uptick in production. Meanwhile, another big game for Chavis, who seems more and more likely to be promoted at some point this summer.

Greenville L 1-2

Lorenzo Cedrola: 0-1

Tyler Hill: 0-4, 1 K

Roldani Baldwin: 1-4

Bryan Mata: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K

Another really strong outing for the young Mata, who is continuing to impress in his full-season, stateside debut. At just 18-years-old, there were reasonable expectations for him to struggle, at least to start. Instead, he’s shown impressive command while also being able to strike out 16 batters in 15 innings. Cedrola was pulled after one at bat, and while I can’t find a reason for it the opponents’ beat writer speculated on Twitter that it was due to the young outfielder not running out a grounder.

DSL Red Sox W 6-2

Freiberg Marin: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB, 1 CS

Jose Mejias: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K

Gregory Santos: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
