Red Sox Minor Lines: Debuts galore

Jalen Beeks, Ty Buttrey and Mike Shawaryn all debut at new levels.

Pawtucket L 4-5

Rusney Castillo: 2-5, 1 K

Steve Selsky: 1-5, 1 2B, 3 K

Bryce Brentz: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Jalen Beeks: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K

Ty Buttrey: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K

A couple of Triple-A debuts on the PawSox pitching staff in this one, and while neither one was great neither was overly discouraging, either. Beeks didn’t show off the ability to miss bats like he did in Double-A, but that’s to be expected in his first start at a high level. The important thing is that he was able to avoid an implosion and pitch relatively deep into the game. It’s a good first step. Essentially, the same can be said of Buttrey, who could be more likely to see the majors before Beeks thanks to his role in the bullpen.

Josh Ockimey: 0-2, 1 BB

Austin Rei: 1-1, 1 RBI

Gerson Bautista: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Another debut down on the farm on Sunday, with Shawaryn making his first start at High-A. It wasn’t quite as dominant as he had been in Greenville, but it was more or less the same as what we’ve come to expect from the righty this year. He struck out more than a batter per inning while limiting his walks and giving up a few more hits than you’d expect. His former Greenville rotation mate, Anderson, started today as well and had his third straight solid outing after a dud in his High-A debut. Anderson was drafted higher and is a more refined prospect, but at this point I think I’m a little more excited about Shawaryn. Oh, and Chavis had two homers in the first game. Ho hum.

Greenville L 0-17

Tyler Hill: 0-4, 2 K

Roldani Baldwin: 3-4, 1 2B

Yikes. Let’s never talk about this game again. Nice one for Baldwin, though, I suppose.
