Red Sox Minor Lines: Third Basemen are under the spotlight

Sandoval, Peralta, Devers and Chavis play as expected.

Pawtucket L 2-10

Jhonny Peralta: 0-4, 1 K

Pablo Sandoval: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K

Bryce Brentz: 1-4, 1 K, 1 E

Blake Swihart: 0-3, 1 K

Kyle Kendrick: 2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K

Ty Buttrey: 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K

Noe Ramirez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Brandon Workman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

It was the third base show down in Triple-A on Wednesday, and it was not a very good episode. Peralta and Sandoval both have hopes to be starters on the big-league club at some point relatively soon, with the former making his debut in the organization on this one. It was a bad game for both players and it’s hard to expect much from either going forward. On a more positive note, shoutout to Noe Ramirez for a hell of a game.

Portland W 5-1

Danny Mars: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K

Rafael Devers: 3-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Nick Longhi: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Michael Chavis: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Josh Tobias: 0-4

It was also the third base show in Double-A, and this one was much better. There’s almost no chance of seeing Chavis at the highest level any time relatively soon, and we still have a while to wait for Devers, too. With that being said, there is light at the end of the tunnel at third base and Wednesday was a good example of that.

Salem L 3-7

Tate Matheny: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 SB

Austin Rei: 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 K

Josh Ockimey: 0-4, 2 K

Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Ockimey might be starting to hit a wall for the second consecutive season. At the end of May, he was hitting .321/.427/.521. Now, after this latest 0-fer, he’s down to .281/.398/.434. Hopefully he can turn it around in July, because his second half performance this season was key for his future evaluations.

Greenville L 5-6 (F/10)

Lorenzo Cedrola: 3-5, 1 2B, 3 R, 1 K

Tyler Hill: 0-1

Lowell L 7-8 (F/11)

Yoan Aybar: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI, 2 K

Aneury Tavarez: 1-5, 2 K

Charlie Madden: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 K

Tavarez is still rehabbing down in Lowell, and he’s yet to have a true standout game. Still, one has to expect he’ll be back at Pawtucket — or at least Portland — soon enough.

GCL Red Sox G1 W 5-0

Pedro Castellanos: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI

Trey Ganns: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 SB

Rayniel Adams: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

Eduard Bazardo: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

GCL Red Sox G2 W 1-0 (F/8)

Juan Hernandez: 2-3

Edilson Batista: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Taylor Ahearn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Bazardo started the year in the Dominican Summer League, where he had spent the previous two seasons as well. After striking out 24 batters in 18 innings while walking only one batter, he got the call to come Stateside and impressed in his first outing.

DSL Red Sox W 6-0

Marcos Martinez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI

Alejandro Rodriguez: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Shair Lacrus: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
