Exhibit A on why the Red Sox felt the need to sign Doug Fister and add more to their starting pitching depth. Owens was probably the next pitcher on the depth chart, and it’s clear that he still hasn’t figured out his control. At this point it’s totally fair to question whether or not he ever will.

A big day for the new-look Seadogs lineup, and it was led by Chavis in his first game at Double-A. The third baseman/designated hitter actually smashed a home run on the very first pitch he saw on the night. There’s still a ways to go with his development, but he doesn’t look ready to slow down just because he’s at another level. Additionally, Lin had a big night and could be due for a promotion at some point soon.

Austin Rei: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E
Ockimey is mostly known for his power, and for good reason considering that is what will carry him to the majors if he does make it that far. However, he also has a great eye and he showed that off in a big way on Saturday. For the season he now owns a 16 percent walk rate.

Cedrola had a big game after struggling for the entire month of June. This was actually his first multi-hit game since May 31, and his batting average had fallen from .300 to .263 in that time.
