Pawtucket L 1-11
Steve Selsky: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Bryce Brentz: 0-4, 1 K
Kyle Kendrick: 5 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Kyle Martin: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K
On Thursday, the Red Sox outrighted Kendrick off the 40-man roster, but the veteran remained on the PawSox roster. The move doesn’t necessarily mean a move to fill the 40-man roster spot is imminent, but the timing of these kinds of moves are always curious. What’s not curious is why Kendrick was chosen as someone to take off the roster. He is not going to help the major-league roster again, and if they ever need him to make another start something has gone horribly wrong.
Salem W 11-7
Tate Matheny: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 2 SB
Josh Ockimey: 1-5, 1 R, 2 K, 1 E
Austin Rei: 0-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
Roniel Raudes: 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Austin Glorius: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Salem’s lineup is a little less exciting with the loss of Michael Chavis, but there is still plenty to watch on this roster. Thursday was all about the pitching, with Raudes having another okay start. He still isn’t pitching well enough to really justify the helium he had prior to the season, but it’s important to remember he’s only 19. He has plenty of time left in his development. On top of that, Nogosek made his High-A debut. The 2016 draftee has pitched extremely well this year and should keep flying through the system.
Greenville L 1-2
Lorenzo Cedrola: 0-5
Tyler Hill: 1-4
Please send some help to Greenville.
Lowell L 0-1
Aneury Tavarez: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Tanner Nishioka: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Jordan Wren: 0-1, 1 K
Welcome back to action, Aneury Tavarez. The outfielder has been out of action for about a month, but he’s ready to get back to work now. If you recall, he was a Rule 5 pick of the Orioles this winter but was given back to the Red Sox and has excelled between Portland and Pawtucket this season. There’s not a ton of outfield depth in the organization — although Rusney Castillo’s big year has changed that somewhat — but Tavarez makes a big difference in that respect.
DSL Red Sox W 2-1
Reinaldo Ugueto: 2-5, 1 R, 1 SB
Keibert Petit: 3-5, 2 RBI, 1 SB
Alejandro Rodriguez: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K
