Red Sox Minor Lines: Where is the offense?

A bad day for the offense throughout the farm system.

Pawtucket G1 L 2-3 (F/8)

Rusney Castillo: 2-3

Sam Travis: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K

Steve Selsky: 1-4, 1 K

Blake Swihart: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI

Deven Marrero: 1-3, 2 K

Henry Owens: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 5 K

Kyle Martin: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Pawtucket G2 L 1-2

Rusney Castillo: 2-3, 1 RBI, 2 SB, 1 E

Sam Travis: 1-3, 1 K

Steve Selsky: 0-3, 1 K, 1 E

Deven Marrero: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K

Ty Buttrey: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

It was a rough day for what has generally been a good Pawtucket offense, scoring only three runs over 15 innings of baseball. Fortunately, there was one positive in Swihart’s home run. The 2017 has been a rough one for the catcher, so hopefully this dinger will help push him back in the right direction. Additionally, it was another typical Owens start.

Portland L 2-3

Danny Mars: 3-4, 1 R, 1 CS

Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-3, 1 E

Rafael Devers: 0-4, 1 K

Nick Longhi: 3-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Josh Tobias: 0-3

Travis Lakins: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

Luis Ysla: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K

This was something of a step forward for Lakins, who has struggled a bit since being promoted to Double-A. It wasn’t a complete step forward, though, as the command is still shaky. It was the third time in six Double-A outings that he’s walked four batters, something he did only once in seven High-A outings. The talent is still there for Lakins, he’s just taking some time to adjust to Double-A. That’s to be expected.

Salem G1 L 1-3

Tate Matheny: 0-3, 2 K

Michael Chavis: 0-3, 1 K

Josh Ockimey: 0-3, 1 K

Austin Rei: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K

Salem G2 L 0-5

Tate Matheny: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB

Michael Chavis: 0-3, 2 K

Josh Ockimey: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K

Yikes. Let’s never talk about this day for the Salem offense again, yeah?

Greenville W 4-3

Tyler Hill: 0-4, 1 K

Roldani Baldwin: 0-2, 1 K

Lorenzo Cedrola: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R

Stephen Nogosek: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

It took some late-game heroics, but Greenville was able to avoid a six-game sweep of the farm system. With the victory, they clinched the first-half win in their division.
