Red Sox Minor Lines: An uneventful day on the farm

Friday was a....fine day in the minor-league system.

Pawtucket PPD

Portland L 3-5

Danny Mars: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB

Josh Tobias: 0-5, 1 K

Rafael Devers: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 K

Nick Longhi: 1-4, 1 2B

Tobias is going through a rough stretch in Portland right now. After tearing it up in High-A to start the season, the return from the Clay Buchholz return hasn’t been nearly as impressive in Double-A. He’s had some flashes, but after this 0-5 game he’s hitting .265/.310/.371 with Portland. The infielder now doesn’t have a hit in his last four games, his second stretch like this since the end of May. He’ll likely turn it around at some point, but the excitement has subsided after his hot start in Salem.

Salem L 0-7

Tate Mathey: 0-4, 3 K

Michael Chavis: 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K

Josh Ockimey: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 E

Austin Rei: 0-3, 1 K

Mike Shawaryn: 2.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

A rough day all around for the High-A squad on Friday. The offense did absolutely nothing, with just two singles coming from the bottom of their lineup. On the mound, Shawaryn had what was probably his worst outing of the entire season. Each of his last two starts in High-A (he’s had three at the level) have been rough, but this was particularly weird with the lack of strikeouts. It’s the first start all season in which he didn’t record a strikeout and just the third time in 13 starts where he had fewer strikeouts than innings pitched.

Greenville W 14-5

Tyler Hill: 1-5, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 RBI

Roldani Baldwin: 2-6, 2 RBI

It was a very good day for the Drive, but unfortunately there’s not a huge presence of prospects about which to get excited right now. Hill and Baldwin had solid days, at least.
