Rafael Devers and Brian Johnson earn Player of the Week Honors

The future of third base and a pitcher still trying to break into the majors are the latest bright spots down on the farm.

The Portland Sea Dogs have one of the hottest properties in the minor leagues - and he’s legit. Rafael Devers dominated Double A last week hitting .440 with 4 homers and 10 RBI. Unsurprisingly, this earned him the Play of the Week status for the first week of May.

Does this bring him closer to the majors where the Red Sox are awaiting stability at third base? Probably not. But it’s nice to see that an internal solution is on his way to claiming a job through success!

Brian Johnson has had the luxury of a few major league appearances...but they haven’t been great. He hasn’t given up, though. The compensation pick for Jonathan Papelbon’s departure, Johnson tossed eight innings against the Syracuse Chiefs allowing just two hits and one run. This is his second time serving as the International League’s Pitcher of the Week, the other coming in April 2015.

With Stephen Wright injured and Kyle Kendrick unimpressive in his first Boston start a string of good outings could find Johnson back in Fenway.

Former Red Sox farm hand Yoan Moncada took home the Batter of the Week honors. With Chris Sale dominating all opponents, we wish him well in Chicago!
