Red Sox vs. Mariners lineup: Pedroia sits, Benintendi bats second for E-Rod

Yovani Gallardo, who is best known for giving up a lot runs, often, starts for Seattle.

The Red Sox (25-21) look to win their fifth straight game when they host the disappointing Seattle Mariners (21-27) tonight at Fenway Park (7:10 p.m., NESN).

Apparently terrible baserunner Dustin Pedroia will sit out with a knee injury, with Josh Rutledge playing second base and batting sixth. As you learned from the headline, Andrew Benintendi moves up to second in the batting order and will play left field, with Jackie Bradley Jr. playing center and batting seventh.

The increasingly wonderful Eduardo Rodriguez (3.10 ERA) will face off against a lineup that, as site manager Matt Collins wrote in the series preview, has been disappointing, but figures to be better after Robinson Cano recently returned from the Disabled List. He’s followed in the heart of the order by Nelson Cruz, who is forever a home run waiting to happen.

Journeyman Yovani Gallardo (5.84 ERA) starts for Seattle and should struggle against this theoretically potent Red Sox lineup... if John Farrell knows what’s right for him, that is. Those times he makes Boston’s players not hit the ball? Dumb, imho. Speaking of which, if you haven’t yet seen the first measurement of Friday Fire Farrell Index, please do so and leave a comment about how stupid I am.

Okay, okay, enough foreplay. It’s Memorial Day weekend! You made it. So did Farrell. Here are the full lineups:
