One of the best ways to get involved with the Over the Monster community is to write a Fanpost. You may have noticed that, over the last couple of months, outofleftfield has provided a weekly prompt for the community to share their ideas via Fanposts. These are a fun way to get involved, and by no means the only time you should/can use our Fanpost section.
If you’re unfamiliar with the process, here’s a quick walkthrough. The first thing you need to do is get an idea of what you’d like to share with the community. It could be hard analysis you’re dying to get off your chest. It could be your hot take on the current status of the Red Sox. It could be a silly, fun post to get everyone laughing. Whatever you’ve got, we’d love to see it.
Once you have that idea, head to the OTM homepage. At the top, you’ll see a subheading next to the site’s logo that says “Fanpost.”
After you click on that, you’ll see a button that says “New Fanpost.” Click on that, and you’ll see the following screen, which is where the actual Fanposting will be done.
From here, it’s fairly simple. Just use that big body section to write the meat of your post. Once you’re done, you can add a catchy headline where it says “Title” and scroll down to post your work for all to see.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
- Do not copy/paste from another site. The mods will remove the post immediately.
- If you want to talk about another post — whether from our site or somewhere else — throw in a link to it. You can do so by highlighting the words on which you want to impose the link and click the chainlink button on the toolbar above the main editor.
- Before you publish, you are given the opportunity to “preview” your post. I suggest taking advantage of this simply to see how the post is formatted and if it’s easy on the eyes.
Perhaps you have a quick link you want to share but don’t want to write a whole Fanpost about it. That’s fine! On the main page, next to the “Fanpost” button, you’ll see the Fanshot section. That is the place to share a quick video, image, gif, tweet or really anything else.
Once you click on that, you’ll be able to choose what kind of media you’re sharing. After selecting the correct option, you’ll simply copy/paste the link, add a headline and a quick description and you can post away. It’s a fun way to share any fun links you happened to stumble upon and feel should be seen by all.
We don’t want to do all of the talking here on Over the Monster. Using Fanposts and Fanshots is the best way to get your voice heard, and we would love to see you all taking advantage of this fun tool.
