Don Orsillo is a legend in New England. He was born in Melrose, attended Northeastern University for college, and was the voice of the NESN’s Boston Red Sox coverage for more than a decade. Now the announcer with the San Diego Padres, we find out he can pitch too.
During the game last night, everyone’s favorite announcer/dentist explained that he’s been putting more thought into his pitching technique and showed off his stuff from the booth.
Daisuke Matsuzaka taught me the gyroball
On display from Orsillo’s arsenal were the grips for his two-seam and four-seam fastballs and of course the gyroball. In addition to Daisuke’s famed “pitch” being in Orsillo’s pitching repertoire, the announcer was also featured in the hit song of the same name with his broadcast partner Jerry Remy.
If Tim Tebow can get a spot on a minor league roster, surely Don Orsillo isn’t far behind!
