Red Sox vs. Cardinals Lineups: Pitchers hitting again

The Red Sox send their main lineup (minus the DH) in the series opener in St. Louis

After just a week, we’re already back to watching some National League baseball. Once again, the Red Sox will be facing off against an NL Central opponent, this time travelling to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.

Boston will be sending what is essentially their main lineup to the plate, with the exception of Hanley Ramirez. He did return to action on Sunday, but with the National League still pretending it’s 1944, Boston only has room for one of Ramirez and Mitch Moreland. Today, the latter gets a chance. It’s Deven Marrero back at the hot corner, too, as the Red Sox will look to keep riding his hot streak.

Hitting in the nine spot is Eduardo Rodriguez, but his spot in the order isn’t as important as his spot on the field. The young lefty has been coming into his own over the last few outings, and he’ll have a real test in this one against one of the hottest lineups in the league. The good news is that the Cardinals are better against right-handed pitching. When a southpaw is on the mound, they are the sixth-worst team in baseball by wRC+.

They’ll counter with Lance Lynn, who you can read more about in the series preview linked above. Here are the full lineups, and we’ll see you in the Gamethread at 8:00!
