There are a few awards that are more prestigious than the American League Player of the Week award, but that doesn’t mean it’s not impressive to win it. Betts has higher hopes — think, MVP, to start with — but in the meantime he’s going to have to be content with the AL Player of the Week award. The Red Sox superstar received the award on Monday for his performance over the last week.

The Red Sox offense is still struggling with consistency, but their best player is starting to find his stride. Over his last seven games, Betts is hitting .400/.486/.967 with four home runs over 35 plate appearances. The Red Sox could really use this kind of performance — or at least something reasonably close — for the rest of the season as they try to support their pitchers on a more regular basis.
Alex Wood of the Dodgers took home the National Player of the Week award.
