Pawtucket W 2-0
Deven Marrero: 0-4, 1 K
Brock Holt: 0-3, 2 K
Rusney Castillo: 0-4, 3 K
Sam Travis: 1-4
Steve Selsky: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 K
Bryce Brentz: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Jantzen Witte: 1-1, 1 BB
Hector Velazquez: 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Edgar Olmos: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Robbie Ross, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
We haven’t talked a ton about Velazquez this season, but he still has a chance to be a rotation depth piece later in the year, particularly with the way the other options have been throwing. The Red Sox have taken it easy on the former Mexican League star after his heavy workload this winter, but he’s been outstanding in two of his three Triple-A starts. With six perfect innings on Sunday, expect him to be a bigger part of the conversation moving forward.
Portland W 1-0
Aneury Tavarez: 1-4, 1 BB
Danny Mars: 1-4, 1 K
Rafael Devers: 0-3, 1 BB
Nick Longhi: 0-4, 1 K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB
Jalen Beeks: 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K
Austin Maddox: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Jake Cosart: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Lin was a big international free agent signing back in 2012, getting more than $2 million from Boston. He’s never really panned out as a prospect, though, and now has a ceiling as a utility player. The infielder has gotten off to a hot start with Portland, however, hitting .347/.407/.612. Meanwhile, Beeks threw seven shutout frames for the second start in a row.
Salem W 5-4
Tate Matheny: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI
Michael Chavis: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI
Kyri Washington: 3-4, 1 RBI
Josh Ockimey: 1 BB, 1 IBB
Gerson Bautista: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Nice to see another big game from Matheny, who had been in the midst of something of a mini-slump after going on a tear upon his return from the disabled list. Also nice to see Chavis hit well. Also nice to see Washington have good game. I’ll be honest with you, I got nothing on this one. Pretty good stuff all around.
Greenville W 8-3
Tyler Hill, 0-1, 4 BB, 1 R, 1 K
Yoan Aybar: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 3 K
Most of the interesting Drive players had Sunday off, but the team was still able to pull out a convincing win. Hill’s four walks definitely stand out in this one. While his statline isn’t quite as gaudy as it was in Lowell last year, that’s mostly a BABIP problem. The one thing he hasn’t done in 2017 is draw walks. Until Sunday, that is.
