Red Sox vs. Team U.S.A lineups: Root for team, or country?

New, comments

Who do you root for in a game between your country and your team?

MLB: Spring Training-Boston Red Sox at Washington Nationals Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Red Sox fans that live in the United States have an existential question to ask themselves today. With their favorite team taking on their national team, who do they root for? There are going to be a lot of long meditation sessions to figure this out.

Nah, just kidding. Go Red Sox, and also it’s spring training so who really cares. The real important thing is that this game inexplicably isn’t on TV. I would’ve thought at least MLB Network would carry it, but we’re stuck with just the radio stream today. Here’s Boston’s lineup.

  1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  2. Brock Holt, SS
  3. Mookie Betts, RF
  4. Mitch Moreland, 1B
  5. Chris Young, LF
  6. Jackie Bradley, CF
  7. Pablo Sandoval, 3B
  8. Allen Craig, DH
  9. Sandy Leon, C

Starting Pitcher: Roenis Elias

Also of note: Team U.S.A won’t be using any of their own pitchers today. It will be Red Sox minor leaguers taking the mound. Teddy Stankiewicz will start things off, followed by Trey Ball, Jalen Beeks, Ty Buttrey, Erik Cordier and Williams Jerez.

On the offensive side of things, the Red Sox are sending out their best and brightest to face their own minor-league pitching staff. On the pitching side...not so much.
