Red Sox vs. Twins lineup: The battle for the Mayor’s Cup

New, comments

It’s, like, more important than the World Series.

MLB: Spring Training-Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Every spring, the Twins and Red Sox play each other numerous times, since both clubs train in Fort Myers. Every spring, the team with the most wins against the other wins the Mayor’s Cup. I don’t want to say it’s the most important trophy, but rumors have it that Mookie Betts and Eduardo Rodriguez stayed home from the WBC because the Mayor’s Cup was more important.*

*Note: This is not at all factual.

Actually, they don’t even really compete for the trophy anymore, as our friends over at Twinkie Town explain. Either way, it’s a super important game and is therefore being broadcast on NESN for your viewing pleasure.
