A day after Kyle Kendrick’s strong spring continued apace and Sam Travis left the yard with a big ol’ donger in a big dumb 3-3 tie again against the Rays, the Sox prepare to host the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:05 p.m. at JetBlue Park (NESN, WEEI) with their best starter on the mound, all apologies to reigning AL Cy Young Winner and Opening Day starter Rick Porcello. Here’s the lineup:
- Brock Holt, SS \o/
- Chris Young, LF
- Andrew Benintendi, CF
- Hanley Ramirez, DH
- Mitch Moreland, 1B
- Josh Rutledge, 2B
- Marco Hernandez, 3B
- Christian Vazquez, C
- Steve Selsky, RF
SP: Chris Sale
The Pirates counter with Ivan Nova, which confused the hell out of me for a second until I realized that the Pirates are not the Phillies and Nova is not Aaron Nola, who started against the Sox a few games back. They apparently spell and pronounce their names differently. Also of note tonight is Pittsburgh’s second baseman and ninth batter, prospect Gift Ngoepe, is the first black South African to sign a professional baseball contract. You can read more here if you’re into that sort of thing.
