Red Sox at Astros lineup: Sale/Verlander kicks the postseason off right

It’s here. The Red Sox are finally playing playoff baseball, and they’re kicking off the postseason in style. Ace Chris Sale takes the mound in Houston this afternoon for game one of the American League Division Series at 4 p.m. EDT against former Tiger and American League MVP Justin Verlander, and it ought to be electric.

We are, of course intimately familiar with both the Astros — against whom we ended the season — and Verlander, who has tormented the Sox for a decade (and vice-versa) and who believes he should have won the 2016 Cy Young Award over Boston’s own Rick Porcello, if you hadn’t heard. If you need more info on the rest of the team, check out Matt Collins’ position-by-position breakdown.

It is my opinion that Verlander is due for a stinker, but after watching Sale get lit up over the last month of the season, the same could be said of him. The orange crush Astros lineup is historically great and features the presumptive MVP Jose Altuve, among many, many other dangerous bats, including Carloses Beltran (out of the lineup today) and and Correa. On top of that, George Springer is potentially the scariest leadoff hitter in the AL (much love to Charlie Blackmon) and always seems to bat with several runners on base.

On Boston’s side, the team is nominally at full strength, which is a good thing for a team that struggles to hit even in the best of times. Hopefully, those best of times are this afternoon. Eduardo Nunez is DHing and hitting second, while Hanley Ramirez begins the day on the bench. Otherwise, it’s status quo. Let’s get it. Here are the full lineups:
