John Farrell was fired by the Red Sox this morning, the Globe’s Pete Abraham (and others) are reporting:
John Farrell is out, #RedSox announce.
— Pete Abraham (@PeteAbe) October 11, 2017
Farrell went 432-378 in his five years with the Red Sox, leading them to a World Series victory in the 2013 season and back-to-back American League East titles for the first time ever in 2016/2017. Despite his success, Farrell arguably never seemed to mesh with the Dave Dombrowski-led Red Sox; given his success, he’s likely to catch on elsewhere.
We will have plenty more about this, of course, but for now feel free to speculate on new managers (Brad Ausmus, Alex Cora, Jason Varitek, Manny Ramirez) and eulogize Farrell in the comments.
