Pawtucket L 3-4 (8/31)
Rusney Castillo: 1-3, BB
Christian Vazquez: 2-4, K
Henry Owens: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
Roman Mendez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Joe Kelly: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Pawtucket L 1-2 (9/1)
Rusney Castillo: 1-4, K
Christian Vazquez: 0-4, 2 K
Brian Johnson: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
Heath Hembree: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Heath Hembree will certainly be up in short order when that whole 10-day limit is up. Owens and Johnson? Who can say? They're already on the 40-man and, if nothing else, could at least be called on to mop up bad innings in a blowout or something like that. It's one of those things where there's not all that much to lose, but at the same time, you can't blame the Sox for not wanting to force them to come and sit around if they've got no intention of using them. We'll see.
Portland L 6-14 (8/31)
Yoan Moncada: 0-5, 2 K
Mauricio Dubon: 2-4
Portland W 6-0 (9/1)
Mauricio Dubon: 0-4, BB, K
Teddy Stankiewicz: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
Not the greatest sendoff for Yoan Moncada, but those last minor league results are perhaps the least significant of any given player's career. They've already done enough to get the call-up, and as soon as they start performing (or failing to) in the majors, it all sort of goes out the window.
Salem Game 1 W 9-8 (In 11)
Joseph Monge: 1-6, 2 K
Rafael Devers: 2-6, K, E
Nick Longhi: 3-5, 2 2B, K
Michael Kopech: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 BB, 1 K, 1 HR
Yankory Pimentel: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Jake Cosart: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Salem Game 2 L 2-7
Joseph Monge: 1-4, K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-4
Rafael Devers: 1-4, K
Nick Longhi: 1-4
Trey Ball: 5 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Oh dear. Oh dear Michael Kopech. That's quite the mess. I guess every pitcher has days like that. Let's...let's move on. Let's all of us move on.
Thankfully, he should get the opportunity to do so with another start, as the Salem Sox are playoff-bound.
Greenville L 1-9 (8/31)
Luis Alexander Basabe: 0-4, 3 K
Kyri Washington: 2-4, 3B, 2 K
Austin Rei: 0-3, BB, 2 K
Stephen Nogosek: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Greenville L 2-3 (9/1)
Kyri Washington: 0-3, 2 BB
There's just so little to say about Greenville these days. Not sure I've ever seen a team start off with so much fire and then run completely out of steam while losing almost nobody to promotion. At least Monge's late-season drop-off can be blamed on moving to Salem. The rest of them don't have that excuse.
Lowell L 5-10
Matt McLean: 2-5, 2 K
CJ Chatham: 1-4, BB, K
Tyler Hill: 0-4, K
Bobby Dalbec: 2-4, HR
Bobby Dalbec hit balls. Balls go far. Yay Bobby Dalbec!
Seriously, though, when every fifth at-bat is an extra-base hit, you're doing something right.
